E-Skolar, Stanford University's first for-profit online endeavor, is a medical search engine (http://www.e-skolar.com/) that enables physicians to find information using multiple databases including textbooks, medical journals reviewed by peers, drug databases, updated clinical guidelines, and the National Library of Medicine. Continuing-education credits sanctioned by the American Medical Association can be obtained by clinicians at the site. The new company, which will operate independently of the university, has a $240 annual subscription fee and provides a faster and higher quality service than other medical sites on the Internet. The company recently signed a distribution agreement with Agilent Technologies and intends to develop corporate partnerships. The university may not develop any more for-profit sites. This site was created in order to keep Stanford at the forefront of online education after the university saw the large amount of competition from outside institutions. Today's TGIF will walk you through the basics of web forms -- using them to add functionality and coolness to a web page; using them to capture input from your visitors; and just understanding what happens behind the scenes with web forms.
Of course this is just a jumping-off point. But, you'll have a better idea of how to use web forms, the pros and cons, and how to have fun with them.
For more information, including the complete spring schedule, please visit the TGIF Web site:
The next TGIF will be held on May 19: Cascading Style Sheets, presented by Liza Lee Miller.

"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea is asleep and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do."
