Tailoring a List to Your Affiliation or Role

The service catalog allows you to browse affiliation-based service lists (i.e., lists for faculty, staff, or students) from a drop-down menu or to login via WebAuth to view pages dynamically tailored to your Stanford affiliation or, if applicable, your defined role. Defined roles currently include Local Network Administrator, Resident Computer Consultant, and Department Contact with OrderIT site access.

Using the same University Registry tools that allow Axess and StanfordYou to provide secure pages with customized information, the new IT Services web site builds your “tailored” list by:

  1. securing your connection (via SSL);
  2. authenticating your identity as a Stanford person;
  3. looking up your primary affiliation (you can find this, yourself, at StanfordYou);
  4. looking to see if you are included in our lists of officially defined roles – as mentioned above, defined roles currently include LNA, RCC, and Department IT Contact;
  5. issuing a query to our service catalog database for services marked as useful and available to those in your role (first) or your primary affiliation (second).

Note: IT Services Client Support staff, and others in our organization’s leadership, analyze our service catalog and portfolio on an ongoing basis to evaluate interest-level, usefulness, cost-effectiveness, and dependencies for all of our client groups and users. Accordingly, you should expect the “tailored” lists generated from our service database to reflect a thoughtful anticipation of your needs. If you find that your logged-in view generates services that seem out-of-place or, even worse, for which you aren’t eligible, please let us know via our feedback form.
