2008-09 News
● The Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies offers congratulations to Robert Crews, Assistant Professor of History, who is named one of the 2009 Carnegie Scholar for his project entitled "Muslims without Borders: Empires, States and Transborder Communities from the Caucasus to the Hindu Kush”. The project seeks to understand how the mobility and interconnectedness of Muslims have intersected with the politics of empires, states, nations, and locales since the early 18th century. His research challenges predominant American frameworks for understanding Muslim identities of an undifferentiated “Muslim world” on one hand, and the nation-state on the other hand.
