Stanford students can now receive an undergraduate Institute for Diversity in the Arts  (IDA) concentration through the major in the Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity (CSRE) program and through the African and African American Studies Program.

students_gesturing.jpg CSRE is a dynamic, and growing major at Stanford and offers students a unique opportunity — to study the topics of race and ethnicity from comparative national and international perspectives. Students who major in Comparative Studies with the IDA concentration enroll in a core curriculum, and in consultation with the chair of the program and a faculty mentor, develop a thematic course of study focusing on comparative dimensions of race and ethnicity with the arts as a lens.

Both the teaching and research carried out at CSRE are based on interdisciplinary and comparative approaches for understanding the complex factors of race and ethnicity and how they have deeply shaped the course of history and the social fabric of the contemporary world.
