Drama 110: Diversity, Culture and Race in a Community Context

Workshops may require an interview/audition to take place at the end of Fall Qtr. 2004 (Nov. 29th - Dec. 3rd) You will be notified of your audition/interview time via email. Under the course heading, Drama 110, students are encouraged to apply for one of three workshops with visiting artists John Santos(Music), Sekou Sundiata (Spoken Word), or June Watanabe (Dance). Students will work with the artists and with community groups through discussions, service-learning workshops and other interactive activities at Stanford and in surrounding communities. Through various media, the artists and student projects will explore the interactions, intersections and meanings of race and diversity and the arts in a community context.

For Sekou Sundiata Workshop: Prospective students should submit a writing sample of  2 poems or other text of 5 pages or less. The poems will be evaluated for ability, clarity of thought and expression, attention to craft. Videotapes, DVDs and recordings of performances will also be accepted as work samples.  Writing Samples may be emailed to ghclarke@stanford.edu and other work samples should be dropped off at IDA office, Rm. 301 Haas Ctr. for Public Service.

For June Watanabe: A collective audition is required for this course.  The audition will be held on December 2 from 7-10pm.  Additional details about the audition requirements will be emailed to students who apply.
