Overview

The Weidenfeld Scholars Program was established in 2007. The program "aims to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow primarily from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa by providing outstanding university graduates and young professionals with the opportunity to pursue graduate studies at the University of Oxford." Scholars also participate in leadership training, long-term mentoring and networking (including work-placements, pro-bono projects and involvement in a high-level speaker and seminar series).

The Award

Each year approximately 40-45 scholars are named (5 of which will be from the US). The award covers all university and college fees, and cost of living.

Eligibility

Applicants for the Weidenfeld Scholars program must:

• be applying for graduate study at the University of Oxford in any field
• be from the US, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa
• be able to demonstrate that they aspire through their professional work to contribute to the public good, in their country or region, or on a global basis
• be able to demonstrate a connection between their subject of study and their longer-term career objectives

The Application

Applicants for the Weidenfeld Scholars Program must first apply to Oxford, and in addition, complete a questionnaire and supporting statement in order to be considered for the scholarship. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an expenses-paid interview weekend in Oxford in early May.
