The Sauvé Scholars Program exists for young leaders from across the globe who want to change the world. It is a unique program designed to equip, enable and empower a new generation of global leaders.

Launched in 2003, the Sauvé Scholars Program has evolved from the Jeanne Sauvé Youth Foundation, created in 1991 by the late Jeanne Sauvé, the first woman to serve as Governor General of Canada, the country’s Head of State and Commander-in-Chief.

Sauvé Scholars are highly motivated independent thinkers 30 years old or less with demonstrated skills as agents of change, who are offered a unique opportunity to spend nine months away from their studies, careers or other formal commitments, for a period of reflection and self-realization – both personal and professional.

The Award

Sauvé Scholars spend an academic year with access to all resources at McGill University. They also receive guidance from academic advisors and mentors at the top of their fields as well as participate in an enriching program of lectures, conferences and events tailored to their interests and goals.

Accommodation is provided with a dozen remarkable peers in an historic house in the heart of Montréal.

In August of each year, up to 14 young men and women from around the world gather in Montreal, Canada to embark on a rewarding personal and intellectual program combining reflection, study, travel and community engagement along with participation in conferences, seminars, cultural and sports events.

Eligibility

Be initiative, have motivation, vision, imagination, communications skills, a keen interest in international and domestic issues, a burning desire to effect change, and the will and skill to be a global leader.

Be between 23 and 30 years of age on December 31, 2011

Have completed undergraduate education or the equivalent by July 31, 2011 (advanced degrees are welcome but not a requirement)

A record of accomplishment and ability to meet challenges

Demonstrated leadership qualities

Proven communications skills

A highly developed curiosity about people, problems, and cultures

A strong interest in both international and domestic issues

An eagerness to change the world for the better

Relevant professional and/or work experience
