The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Special Programs Corporation's Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowship Program seeks to enhance U.S. national security and global competitiveness by promoting excellence, international service, and awareness among a representative cross-section of the American citizenry. We also seek to broaden access to international education and training opportunities for underrepresented minority college students.

The Award

Upon acceptance and admission to the IIPP Fellowship Program, Fellows must commit to a multi-year education and training program that requires three consecutive summers of fellowship-related activities; study abroad for a minimum of one semester during their junior year of college; an internship; a summer language institute (if the Fellow is not competent/fluent in a foreign language); and application to and completion of a Master’s-level graduate program focused on international affairs. The junior year study abroad component must be completed before a Fellow graduates from college. An IIPP Fellow must complete all requirements of the program within six years.

Eligibility

Applicants must be undergraduate sophomores who:

Are enrolled full-time

Are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents

Will remain enrolled at their undergraduate institution for two years following their acceptance to the Fellowship

Have a minimum 3.2 grade point average

Have a strong demonstrated interest in international affairs

Are an underrepresented minority (African American, Hispanic/Latino American, Asian American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander)

Plan to seek admission to an internationally-focused graduate degree program

The Application

To be considered for the IIPP Fellowship Program, students submit an online application along with supplementary materials in hard copy (postmarked by the deadline). The online application consists of a personal profile (including career goals), a 500-word personal statement, a 500-word issue analysis essay, and two online recommendations. Supplementary materials include an institutional nomination, university transcripts, financial aid award documentation, and a description of a potential study abroad program.
