Overview
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently established the Gates Cambridge Scholars program. The goal is "to create a network of future leaders from around the world who will bring new vision and commitment to improving the life circumstances of citizens in their respective countries. Over time, it is anticipated that Gates Cambridge Scholars will become leaders in helping to address global problems related to health, equity, technology, and learning."
The Award
The scholarship funds 1-4 years of graduate study at the University of Cambridge. If a student is successful in obtaining a Gates Award for a one year Masters they can then apply for further funding for a higher degree.
Eligibility
Candidates for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship:
There is no restriction on the choice of subject a student can pursue under a Gates Award. But applicants are reminded of the need to consider issues of social equity in the guidelines. It is unlikely that awards will be given for clinical Medical studies.
There is no campus process for the Gates Scholarship. Interested student should review the Gates Website, and read the three Stanford Campus Handouts, "Should I Apply" "Guide for the Stanford Applicant" and "The Process of Applying".
