  • 2 year home country residency requirement
  • visa extensions

Please plan to attend this workshop if you are a Stanford student holding a J-1 visa and have questions concerning your visa.

Please review the following web sites prior to attending the presentation:

  • Academic training page. This site contains information regarding on-campus employment, J-1 (DS-2019) program extensions, and academic training (off-campus employment prior to and after graduation).

  • For information regarding the waiver of the J visa two-year foreign residency requirement, the exchange visitors skills list... you may review the U.S. State Department's web site.

As a J-1 student, you are eligible for a variety of work opportunities in the U.S., but employment without proper authorization is a serious violation of status. Remember that before you start ANY kind of employment (even on campus), you must first consult with your J-1 Responsible Officer, whose written approval is necessary in advance.
