Clear a path to a safer world
Start 7:30 pmLong after wars are over landmines remain scattered in close to 80 countries around the world. This makes land unusable for farming, schools or living, and prevents people from rebuilding lives torn apart by conflict. These indiscriminate weapons maim or kill 15,000 to 20,000 civilians every year. They cost as little as $3 to produce, but as much as $1000 to remove.
Join us for a discussion, including the showing of a short documentary film, on the crisis that landmines cause and what can, and is, being done about it.
A Night of Canadian Cinema
Start 7:30 pmThis event showcases fine examples of works produced in Canada. The evening will start off with a selection of animation shorts produced by the National Film Board of Canada, followed by the film, My Life Without Me. This stars Sarah Polley as Ann, a young wife and mother whose life takes a dramatic turn when her doctor tells her that she has uterine cancer and only two months to live. After vowing to keep her news a secret, Ann begins living with an intensity she never thought possible.
Please join us to watch and discuss these films. Light refreshments will be served.
