Programs of the Bechtel International Center

Friday Morning Coffee

This informal weekly gathering is an ideal way to meet other spouses and learn about the many possibilities for spending your time in the Stanford area.

 If you are new to the area, come to the Friday Coffee to  complete the Spouse Registration form and pick up your copy of the

  • Handbook/Calendar for International Families,
  • Quarterly schedule of Classes & Programs for Spouses,
  • Welcome letter & introduction to I-Center services for spouses, partners and families, available in several languages.

We all take turns bringing a snack to go with the coffee and tea provided by the I-Center. Whether with children or without, all are welcome at this weekly event! Join us every Friday, between 10 and 12 noon!

Playgroups

Are you looking for a group of kids your child could play with regularly? Depending on your child’s age, we have 3 different groups.

  • The Blanket Babies & Toddlers Group is an informal group of Moms that meets at the Bechtel Center. Anybody with a little baby or a toddler is welcome.

  • The International Play Group in the Park meets at Juana Briones Park, 609 Maybell Avenue, Palo Alto. Join other Moms and kids for informal play in this park near Stanford Campus. Everyone is welcome!

  • The Play Group for School Kids meets at Juana Briones Park, 609 Maybell Avenue, Palo Alto. It's a great opportunity for the older children (1st grade to 8th grade) to meet and play while their parents can talk, drink coffee….

 

Other resources for Stanford-related families with children:

  • The WorkLife Office provides information on family resources and high qualtity child care, including pre-school programs, summer camps, pre-natal and childbirth resources and parent education resources.

  • Parent Net is an electronic newsgroup that enables Stanford affiliated families to exchange various information including child and family related matters such as childcare, health issues, etc. To subscribe, send an email to parent-net-join@lists.stanford.edu

  • See the pages on "Families with Children" in the International Center calendar for community resources for families with children, such as recreation programs, the Children's Museum and Library in Palo Alto, classes in preparation for childbirth, pre- and post-natal fitness, and the Nursing Mothers Council.

  • In addition, Breastfeeding Information and Support is available through La Leche League of the Peninsula. Pick up the brochure at the I-Center, or visit their website for the group nearest you.
