A Sampling of Recent Visits
University academics and administrators from South Korea - December 2007
Thirteen seniors administrators and academics from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea, came to Stanford and met with their counterparts from more than seven departments from the School of Engineering and from other offices on-campus that are related to the School of Engineering. They shared best practices with their Stanford counterparts.
Student affairs administrators from Taiwan - November 2007
A delegation of twelve staff members from the Student Affairs division at National Taiwan University met with their colleagues from the Vice-Provost for Student Affairs here and also with representatives from the Career Development Center, the Judicial Affairs Office and Residential Education to learn about the structure of VPSA and to exchange ideas about new services to students.
Brazilian visitors interested in the future of biofuels - November 2007
A delegation from Brazil, whose visit was sponsored by the Department of State's International Visitors Leadership Program, met with Stanford experts to discuss the status of biofuels. It included researchers, a key political supporter of biofuel and a representative of the Brazilian biofuel industry.
French government official - November 2007
An Academy Rector and Chancellor of the Universities (Chief Education Officer) from one of the 30 regional education authorities in France came to Stanford and met with representatives from OTL, SPRIE and the Stanford Genome Technology Center. In France, the Rector is appointed by a decree of the President of the French Republic on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers and he is the direct representative of the French Minister for 'National Education, Higher Education and Research' in his/her region. He/She is charged with overseeing the entire range of academic programs, including budget and personnel, for one of the academic regions. The purpose of the visit was to acquire a greater awareness of the strength and breadth of research and development in U.S. universities and corporations.

A visitor from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Hoover Institution experts to exchange thoughts on the current political situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
Academic from a university in Namibia - July 2007
A Professor of Law and Human Rights from University of Namibia came to Stanford to meet his counterparts at the Law School to exchange best practices and discuss possible cooperation.
Delegation from a Finnish university - May 2007
A delegation from University of Jyväskylä, Finland, met with colleagues from the Stanford Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research (SCANCOR) and several faculty members from their respective areas of interest/focus. They also met with a few senior Stanford administrators to discuss multidisciplinary research and research funding issues.
Government officials and academics from Kazakhstan - March 2007
The Dean of the International Relations Department of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and two government officials from the Ministry of Education in Kazakhstan came to Stanford to discuss issues in the areas of academic integrity, faculty development, curriculum development and the role of our University Registrar.
Chinese university senior administrators and academics - January 2007
A delegation of government officials, senior administrators and professors from China's most prestigious universities met representatives from the Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research and Graduate Policy, the Office of Sponsored Research, and the Office of the President to discuss research administration and multi-disciplinary research efforts at Stanford. They also visited the Ginzton Laboratory, where they met with several staff members and students who presented their current research projects and gave the delegation a tour of the facilities.
