Obtaining Immigration Documents from Stanford (Graduates)

F-1 Visa

If you will be attending Stanford on an F-1 visa it is very important to note that the certificate of eligibility (1-20) that allows you to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. consulate is NOT issued by the Bechtel International Center.

I-20 certificates are issued by the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Certificates for visas are processed starting in early June for entry in fall. Graduate Admissions will not send these forms by express mail, courier service of fax.

Please do not send inquiries about your I-20 to the Bechtel International Center. You should contact the Graduate Admissions Office at 650-723-4291

J-1 Visa

Certificates of eligibility to allow students to apply for a J-1 visa are issued by the Bechtel International Center at the request of the Graduate Admissions Office and only after all admission requirements have been met. The Bechtel International Center begins mailing DS-2019 documents in early June for entry in fall. We cannot send these forms by express mail, courier service or fax.>

Please do not expect to receive your DS-2019 before June if you are going to enroll in fall.

IMPORTANT:

Students attending Stanford’s Summer English Program or Stanford’s Summer Session prior to the start of the academic year MUST inform the Graduate Admissions Office of these intentions in order to facilitate the issuance of one 1-20 or DS-2019 that will reflect the total period of study.
