Frequently Asked Questions about the H-1B status

Petitioning for H-1B status at Stanford University. Please be aware that as of March 8, 2005, the CIS will collect a $500 “anti-fraud” fee with each initial petition submitted on behalf of an H-1 temporary worker. The fee is for initial petitions only, not extensions, and must be paid by the employer.

Extension of H-1B status at Stanford

H-1 withdrawal template (MS Word document) Use this template to prepare a letter notifying CIS of an H-1 employee's early departure from Stanford. An early departure is one in which the employee leaves Stanford's employment prior to the expiration date of the H-1 approval notice.

Mail the letter to CIS at the address in the template 30 days after the employee's departure. The letter may be sent directly to the Laguna Niguel address, but a cc to Bechtel is greatly appreciated.

If there are any questions about the purpose, timing or effect of this letter, please inquire at foreign.scholars@stanford.edu
