Profiles of the Deans

The Vernon R. and Lysbeth Warren Anderson Dean of Humanities and Sciences is responsible for preserving and enhancing the school's academic excellence and for ensuring its financial health and stability. He or she serves as chief spokesperson for the school to both internal and external constituencies. The standard term of appointment for the Dean is five years.

The vice dean for academic planning was established as of September 2005. The role of the vice dean is to improve the linkage between academic planning and the financial planning and management of the school.

Four academic senior associate deans report to the Dean and each is responsible for a set of departments and programs in three disciplinary areas - the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences - and in graduate and undergraduate studies. The standard term of appointment for H&S senior associate deans is three years.

The executive dean provides management leadership for the school, working closely with the Dean of the school, as well as with the senior associate deans and associate dean for external relations. The role is intended to help create a better link between the academic and administrative sides involved in making the school function well.
