History of the School of Humanities and Sciences

1921
The Food Research Institute is founded.

1922
The School of Biology is created and includes the departments of Anatomy, Bacteriology, Experimental Pathology, Biochemistry, Hopkins Marine Station, Food Research Institute, Paleontology, Physiology, Psychology, and Zoology.

1924
The School of Social Sciences is created and includes the departments of Economics, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and also members of the departments of Education, Food Research, Language and Literature, Psychology, and Public Law.

1926
The School of Physical Sciences is created and includes the departments of Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics.

1927
The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures is founded.

1929
The School of Biology is renamed the School of Biological Sciences.

1930
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is created.

1935
Greek and Latin become the Classics Department.

1939
The Department of Speech and Drama is established.
