Choosing a Major or a Minor

The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) awards nearly 80 percent of Stanford's undergraduate degrees in fields ranging from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences to interdisciplinary programs and performs most of its undergraduate teaching. Undergraduate students have exceptional opportunities for research and one-on-one and small-group interaction with H&S senior faculty.

Individually Designed Majors and Individually Designed Honors Program in Humanities

New students are not being accepted into the Individually Designed Major or the Individually Designed Honors Program in Humanities. Students who have already been accepted into these programs will be allowed to complete their course of study.

Coterminal Masters Degree Program
The coterminal degree program at Stanford allows you the unique opportunity to begin work on a master’s degree while you are finishing your bachelor’s degree. The degrees do not have to be from the same department. They can be combined in a way that adds coherence and depth to your educational program or enhances your professional or personal interests.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities
One of the exceptional benefits of pursuing an undergraduate degree at Stanford’s School of Humanities and Sciences is the opportunity to join internationally renowned faculty in expanding the boundaries of knowledge through research and artistic creation. The undergraduate experience at Stanford is greatly enriched through opportunities for direct involvement in faculty research.
