Individually Designed Majors

The Individually Designed Major (IDM) is available to undergraduates interested in pursuing an area of study that cannot be accomplished through completion of established majors and minors.  The student, in close consultation with faculty advisors, develops a comprehensive proposal defining the major and justifying the intellectual merit of the plan, and identifies a coherent curriculum. This is a rigorous process and very few IDMs are approved.

Getting started
 
Before preparing an IDM application, students should thoroughly investigateavailable majors and minors to determine whether goals can be met by pursuing existing degree programs. It is also highly recommended that the student meet with Susan Weersing, Associate Dean for Graduate and Undergraduate Studies, to learn more about IDMs.
