2002

Liz Borgwardt (Stanford University Ph.D., 2002) published A New Deal for the World: America's Vision for Human Rights with the Belknap imprint of Harvard University Press in 2005. New Deal for the World has garnered the Merle Curti Award for the best book in the history of ideas published in 2005 from the Organization of American Historians; and the Stuart L. Bernath Award for the best first book in the history of U.S. foreign relations published in 2005, from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. New Deal is based on Borgwardt's dissertation, "An Intellectual History of the Atlantic Charter: Ideas, Institutions, and Human Rights in American Diplomacy, 1941-1946," which was awarded the Stanford History Department's Elizabeth Spilman Rosenfield Prize for best-written dissertation in 2002. The book was also a finalist for the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Book Award.
