About the Faculty and Staff Help Center
The Stanford Faculty and Staff Help Center (FSHC) provides
professional, confidential, brief counseling to the faculty and staff of
Stanford University, Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital,
Menlo Medical Clinic and SLAC. Spouses, domestic partners, and children under
23 are also eligible for these services.
Bilingual counseling services are available. Please contact us for additional information regarding specific languages.
FSHC offers an extensive range of services:
individual, couple, and family counseling; workshops; and peer support groups.
We also provide consultation and training to departments who need assistance
with interpersonal issues or job stress. Supported by employee benefit funds,
all FSHC services are offered free of charge.
If you have further questions about our services or wish to make
an appointment, please stop by or call us at 650-723-4577. Send email to: helpcenter@lists.stanford.edu
Why People Come to the Faculty and Staff Help Center
People seek help at the Center for many reasons, such as job stress, relationship
issues, parent-child concerns, alcohol and drug abuse, care of elderly parents,
grief and loss, and retirement issues. Whether your concerns are personal
or work-related, we hope that you'll feel free to come to the Center.
Confidentiality
All contacts with the FSHC are kept confidential. Exceptions to this
policy are situations involving child abuse, elder abuse, or a threat to
someone's life, where there is a legal requirement to make a report to the
appropriate governmental agencies. If you prefer to seek help anonymously,
you may speak to a counselor without identifying yourself; just call 723-4577.
A Focus on Short-term Counseling
Counseling is generally limited to a maximum of ten sessions; many people resolve
their problems in fewer than ten sessions. If extended counseling is needed,
we make referrals to community agencies or private resources, in accord with
the individual's needs and ability to pay.
The Faculty and Staff Help Center Staff
The Center is staffed by licensed clinical social workers, marriage and family
therapists, and psychologists. We are a diverse group from
the standpoint of age, sex, ethnicity, foreign-language ability, and special
skills. We encourage people to seek help from the counselor with whom they
are most comfortable.
