The Liliore Green Rains Houses is a graduate apartment complex that houses 779 single students in two-and four-bedroom apartments.

There are thirty residence buildings and eight common buildings which house the residence office and the common rooms. Rains has been nicknamed "Rains Resort" because of its beautiful landscaping, sunny, expansive lawns, recreational opportunities, and its popular sand volleyball court.

Rains has 246 two-bedroom apartments and 72 four-bedroom apartments. The two-bedroom apartments vary a bit in shape and size, but the average is about 575 square feet.

The four-bedroom apartments are about 1040 square feet and have two bathrooms.

The photos on this page show a two bedroom apartment. The types of furniture are similar in a four bedroom apartment.

All Rains apartments are furnished. They include furniture, wall coverings, and major appliances. This photo and the ones above and below it show the living room and dining room of a two bedroom apartment.

The living room/dining room in a four-bedroom apartment has a table with six chairs, two couches, a storage cabinet, an end table large enough to accommodate a tv, and a coffee table.

The kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, stovetop and oven, and garbage disposal. This kitchen is in a two bedroom apartment.

Students will need to bring their own pots, pans, dishes, utensils, towels and other kitchen items.

 

 

Each bedroom in all Rains apartments has a twin extra long bed.

bedrooms vary a bit in shape and size, but the average is about 118 square feet in a two bedroom apt, and about 119 and a four bedroom apt.

For your convenience, linen packs are available for you at the EV Office. The pack includes a pillow, a pillow case, a set of sheets, a blanket, and a fitted pad, the price is $51.50.

All Rains bedrooms also include a desk and chair, a nightstand, a bureau, and some bookshelves built into the wall.

This closet is in a two bedroom apartment. Four bedroom apartments have similar bedroom closets.

The size of the closet is aproximately 46"x22"

 

Each two bedroom apartment has one bathroom with a tub and shower, sink and toilet. The shower curtain is provided, but towels are not.

Laundry

Rains has five laundry rooms with coin-operated washers and dryers. There are no laundry hookups in the apartments.

Utilities

The following utilities are included in the rent: electricity, water, and garbage pickup. Phone and cable tv service is available at an extra charge. Each bedroom has a jack capable of having a separate line with its own number, though students can arrange to share a phone with one or more roommates.

Computing

Each bedroom is equipped with an ethernet jack to connect student computers with the Stanford network and the internet.

Rains has two computer clusters with laser printers and Macintosh computers loaded with many commonly used software programs.

Storage

Storage space in Rains is limited to the closets, cabinets and shelves within the apartments.

Common spaces

Each student's apartment key will open the Bailey, Willis, and Fairclough Lounges. The Timoshenko has a separate key,

There are couches, chairs, televisions and VCRs in Bailey, Willis and Fairclough Lounges.

Bailey Lounge is shown at right. It has a tv and vcr, study tables, couches and chairs.

Rains residents may book Timoshenko Lounge at the Rains Office , for private functions (shown at left). It has a fireplace, microwave oven, couches, tables, and chairs.

The Rains Buttery (at right) is an historic building in which butter was actually prepared and stored when a farm stood where Rains is located now.

The Buttery is used for Rains community events put on by the Community Associates, students who volunteer to coordinate programs and activities for Rains residents.

 

Rains has one Conference room, equipped with tables, chairs, and a dry erase board, located in Building 5 and accessible with a Rains apartment key. It is used primarily as a student study room.

Driving directions to the Rains Housing Front Desk:

From Campus Drive:

  • Turn down Escondido Road away from the center of campus.

  • Continue to the end (a roadblock).

  • Then turn right into the Rains Parking lot.

  • Drive past the first (3-story) building and park.

  • Walk around the second (1-story) building towards the fountain; the Rains Office is in the one story building, between the mailboxes and the laundry room.
