All students with partners or spouses and/or children who live on campus are assigned to Escondido Village.

There are 149 apartment buildings in EV in a park-like setting with a total of 1897 apartments.Blackwelder highrise

Highrises Five of the buildings are eight-story apartment buildings, each with 63 one bedroom apartments for couples. Quillen and Blackwelder both have twelve stories with 110 one bedroom apartments. Couples live in Quillen, and two single students share a one-bedroom apartment in Blackwelder.

Studio apartments Studio apartments are located in four-story buildings and house one student per apartment. Each studio apartment includes a kitchenette with a full-size stove and refrigerator; a private bathroom with toilet, sink, bathtub and shower; a living and sleeping room with a full-size extra long bed, a desk with built-in bookshelves, a loveseat, and an end table. Note: the beds in the Studio 5 building have regular length full-size beds. This building has the contract code 519.A courtyard in a family neighborhood at Escondido Village.

Townhouses The rest of the Escondido Village is made up of one and two story townhouses and flats arranged in buildings of four to ten apartments each. The townhouses each have their own patio and look out over courtyards with lawns, trees, and in the family areas, playgrounds.

Singles, Couples and Families

Single students live in studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments. All apartments for singles have furniture, window coverings, and a stove and refrigerator, but no linens, dishes or other household goods. Tour the apartments for singles.

Nearly all couples live in one bedroom apartments. There are eight two-bedroom loft apartments. Only student couples who are both Stanford students are eligible to apply for these apartments. Most couples apartments are located in the eight story apartment buildings, but there are some in one and two story buildings and 110 apartments in Quillen, a twelve story building. Students may request a furnished or unfurnished apartment. Tour the apartments for couples.

Students with children live in one, two, three, and four bedroom apartments. There are only two four-bedroom apartments. Most family apartments are arranged around grassy, fenced courtyards with play equipment and sand pools. Most are two story buildings (townhouses). Students with children may request a furnished or unfurnished apartment. Tour the apartments for students with children.

Recreation

Pianos

Baby grand pianos are located in the Village Center, Cottage Room, and in the Blackwelder and Quillen lounges. Students may reserve the Village Center or Cottage Room to practice the piano, or they may drop in at the EV Office and pick up a key for using the piano that same day if the room is not booked. The key is due back by the following morning.

Volleyball courts

Escondido Village has a sand volleyball court between Buildings 117 and 124. There is a paved volleyball court right in the middle of the Village. They are available on a first-come, first served basis.

Barbecue Area

There is a barbecue grill and picnic tables in the grove between Blackwelder and Building 4, available on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations).

Laundry Rooms

There are ten laundry rooms in Escondido Village with coin-operated washers and dryers. Each of the eight and twelve story buildings have laundry rooms in the basement. There are also two laundry rooms in the Oasis, the part of Escondido Village that is between Mirrielees and Rains Houses. Another laundry room is located next to the Escondido Village office on Comstock Circle.

The two, three and four bedroom apartments have washer and dryer hook-ups in the kitchen for students who would like to bring their own laundry machines. The space is large enough for standard sized washers and dryers.

Utilities

These utilities are included in your rent: electricity, natural gas, water, and garbage pickup. Phone service and cable television are available at an additional charge. There is a telephone jack and ethernet connection in each bedroom and another in the living room.You will need to wait until you pick up your key to arrange for phone service and cable tv.

Computing in EV

All bedrooms and living rooms in Escondido Village is equipped with an ethernet jack to connect your computer to the Stanford network and the Internet. For more information, visit the Residential Education web site. http://rescomp.stanford.edu

Escondido Village also has three computer clusters, one in Studio 5/6, one in Building 54 and one in Building 116, which are equipped with Macintosh computers, laser printers, and various software.

Storage

There is very limited storage in Escondido Village. There is often room to store a few boxes in the storage spaces outside your apartment, but not furniture or other large items. The eight story buildings have two shared storage rooms on each floor. The twelve-story buildings have shared storage in the basement. Some of the one and two story buildings have shared storage rooms within the building.

Meeting Rooms

There are two meeting rooms near the EV Administration Building which are available for reservation by Escondido Village residents without charge. Each has a kitchen, restroom(s), folding tables and chairs, and a baby grand piano.

The Village Center, in the building next to the EV Administration Building, is a sunny room with a vinyl floor and a high ceiling. There is a children's play yard adjacent to the building.

The Cottage Room is in the EV Administration Building. It is an historic room with a carpeted floor and dark panelling.

The eight and twelve story buildings also have lounges on the first floor for use by residents of the building. They are furnished with sofas, chairs and a TV. Some have VCRs and/or a ping pong table.

 

  The EV Office


The EV administration building at 859 Escondido Road, is an old two story farmhouse that has been converted into an office building. It is wheelchair accessible.

Driving Directions: At the corner of Escondido Road and Campus Drive, turn onto Escondido Road away from the center of campus. There is a road block at the end of Escondido Road. Turn left onto Comstock Circle. Then take a quick right and another right into the parking lot.
