Crothers and Crothers Memorial

Crothers and Crothers Memorial Halls are the only dormitories on campus for graduate students. While they are open to any single graduate student, Law students have a priority for assignment to Crothers Hall and Engineering students have a priority for assignment to Crothers Memorial. Crothers Memorial is often referred to as "CroMem." There are shared single-sex bathrooms with showers on each floor.

The Dorm Rooms

Crothers and CroMem have both single occupancy rooms (occupied by one person) and double occupancy rooms (one large dorm room shared by two people). Double rooms are not co-ed; each is occupied by either two men or two women. However, there is a mix of rooms for men and rooms for women on each floor.

The room size may vary in shape and size, but the average is approximately 125 square feet for the single occupancy rooms, and 215 square feet for the double occupancy rooms.

All rooms are furnished with a twin extra long bed, a desk and chair, and a bookshelf, closet and dresser built into the wall. Double occupancy rooms have twice that amount of furniture. All of the rooms are carpeted and also have a wash basin. Window coverings are provided.

Short wall partitions are available as room dividers for the double occupancy rooms upon request. The dorms do not come with things like sheets, or pillows. Some students prefer to bring their own beds, but because there is no storage space in Crothers or Cro Mem, students would need to store unwanted furniture off-campus at their own expense.

Utilities

Electricity, water, and garbage pickup are included in the room rent for Crothers and Crothers Memorial Halls. Telephone and cable tv service are available at an additional charge. Each dorm room has a wall jack for telephone and ethernet (computer network connection) service. Rooms that are shared by two people have two sets of jacks. Students will need to wait until after checking in before arranging for telephone, computer networking and cable tv service

The Mark Taper Center

The MARK TAPER CENTER is located in the courtyard between Crothers and CroMem Halls. It is available to law students only and offers a large common room for programs and receptions. Law students living in Crothers or CroMem should call the Law School at 723-0518 to reserve the Mark Taper Center.

Crothers Memorial Common Rooms

Student Storage

The storage room for CroMem has a very limited space for boxes or suitcases and only the CAs have access to it, so please contact them if you need to put anything in there.

TV Room

The TV room is located in the first floor close to the office and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Use your dorm key to get into this room.

Pool Table Room

The Pool Table Room is located in the first floor right across from the office, turn left in the hallway if you enter the building from the main parking lot.

Communal Kitchen

Crothers Memorial has one communal kitchen, located in the first floor turn left in the hallway if you enter the building from the main parking lot. It is available to a very limited number of students who pay a kitchen deposit for $100.00 for the academic year. Because of the high number of residents, we will probably have to run a "lottery" for those wishing to use the kitchen. Your CAs will give you more information about who will be the Kitchen Manager this year and when the lottery to join will take place. Please note, students who do not have access to the kitchen may not cook inside of their rooms due to the fire hazard. Please explore the many other dining options available on campus.

Laundry Room

It is located in the first floor towards the north end of the hallway. There is a change machine in there that takes one and five dollar bills. Be considerate and remove your laundry when it's done; abandoned laundry is likely to be moved from the machines by your neighbors.

Music Room

The CroMem music room is located on the first floor, close to the office and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The music room hours are from 9 AM- to midnight. Use your dorm key to get into this room.

Vending machines

Vending machines are in the Pool Room right across from the office. The University contracts out vending machine services, so the office does not have money for refunds; we do have refund envelopes in the office, which we send via intercampus mail to the correct office. We will notify you when your refund comes back.

The CroMem computer cluster is located on the first floor (turn left if you enter the building from the main parking lot), with Macintosh computers, laser printers, and various software.

Crothers Hall Common Rooms

Library

Crothers Hall has four Law Libraries located in the basement along the hallway; they can also be used as study rooms. Use your dorm key to get into this room.

Recreation

A Fitness Room at Mark Taper Center is available to law students only. The room is furnished with cable weight machines, treadmill, and exercise bicycles. Entry requires a code, available from the Crothers Memorial Office.

Basketball and Volleyball Courts are located in the courtyard between both Halls. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
