There are many dining options available to graduate students. Students living in co-ops must purchase their house board plan and participate in the preparation of meals. Students living in other residences may choose to cook for themselves if living in apartments or if they have kitchen privileges at Crothers or Crothers Memorial Halls, eat at on-campus or nearby restaurants and snack bars, or purchase a meal plan offered by the University or one of the student-run organizations listed below.

Stanford Dining is a world class award-winning organization that provides a wide array of menus and dining options through 8 residential dining locations and 11 retail restaurants and cafés. Using high quality ingredients and brand-name products, they offer a range of special diet options including vegan, vegetarian and Halal meats. The residential dining facilities (Branner, Florence Moore, Lagunita, Manzanita, Wilbur, Ricker and Stern) offer All-You-Care-to-Eat meal service. All Stanford Dining facilities are open to the entire Stanford community, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and university guests.

Late night services are available at Stern's Cyber Café, open 7 nights per week; Late Nite at Lakeside, open Sunday-Thursday; and CoHo, open late several nights a week.

Stanford Dining's campus cafés include Union Square and Subway at Tresidder Memorial Union; Axe and Palm; two Peet's Coffee and Tea locations (Tresidder and the Clark Center); Olives@ Bldg. 160, offering Mediterranean faire; and The Café at Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center, featuring California bistro cuisine. All of Stanford Dining's locations accept payment in the form of cash, Visa or MasterCard, Cardinal Dollars or Stanford Card Plan.

Service hours and menu offerings are subject to change. During Summer Session, some facilities are subject to closure or modified service. Please visit the Stanford Dining website for current information.

Cardinal Dollars provide flexibility and ease of use at all of the locations listed above. Cardinal Dollars are a declining balance plan, programmed directly onto your Student ID card.

Eating Clubs and Dining Societies are student-run organizations that offer a variety of eating plans and sponsor social activities as well. In 2008-09, the cost of standard meal plans are approximately $4,500 per year in the Eating Clubs (near Toyon Hall) and approximately $1230 to $1500 per quarter in the Dining Societies (near the Governor's Corner Suites). Self-ops are undergraduate houses in which student residents and non-resident eating associates manage the operation of the house's meal service and hire a house cook. La Casa Italiana, Haus Mitteleuropa, La Maison Française, and EAST House often feature international meals. Other self-ops include 557 Mayfield, 680 Lomita, 717 Dolores, BOB, Durand, Grove, Lambda Nu, MARS, Muwekma-tah-ruk, Narnia, Phi Sig, Roth, Slavianskii Dom, Storey, Xanadu, and ZAP. Rates for eating associate plans range from approximately $1100 to $1300 per quarter. Information about eating associate plans may be obtained from houses' kitchen managers.

Co-ops are student residences in which residents and nonresident eating associates manage the house meal service and prepare all meals themselves. Eating associates at co-ops are required to work two to five hours per week planning, preparing, and serving meals. Because students prepare all meals, co-op board plans cost less than other meal plans at Stanford. The seven co-ops are Chi Theta Chi, Columbae, Enchanted Broccoli Forest, Hammarskjöld, Kairos, Synergy, and Terra. Students interested in becoming an eating associate at a co-op should contact the houses' kitchen manager. Rates for eating associate plans range from approximately $500 to $800 per quarter.
