| Beginning in 2008-09 students will sign their Residence Agreements when they apply for housing instead of after they are assigned. This means that you accept the housing that you are assigned to at the beginning of the process, and do not need to confirm that you accept your assignment after the assignment results are announced. If you no longer need housing after you have been assigned, you will need to cancel that assignment (see Cancelling an Assignment)
The 2008-09 Residence Agreement will be available in our office and on our web site by Monday, April 21, 2008.
Legal Contract. The Residence
Agreement is a legal and binding contract that governs
occupancy and conduct in University housing. When you
apply for housing either in Axess or as an absentee
applicant, you acknowledge that you have read the Residence
Agreement and that you agree to comply with all terms and
conditions set forth therein. You should read carefully the
entire agreement as it contains important information on
residence living that is not included in the Upperclass Housing
web pages.
The Residence Agreement is a legal and binding contract which you must accept in order to apply for housing at Stanford University. The agreement is for a space in University housing and not
for a particular room or residence or type of housing. By signing the Residence Agreement, you agree to comply
with all University policies governing occupancy of University
residences,
and upon taking occupancy of a space, you agree to pay the
required room and board rates established by Stanford University
for student residences for the 2008-09 University calendar
year. You may still cancel your housing assignment prior to moving in, but you will be charged between $50 and $400 depending on the date. You also agree to comply with all University policies
governing occupancy of University residences.
Respect for the Rights of Others.
One of the most important principles of the
Residence Agreement is your obligation to be considerate
of other residents and the residence staff and to respect
the rights of others at all times. Stanford's residence
community is highly diverse in nature, with students and
staff of different sex, race, color, religion, sexual orientation,
and national and ethnic origin. This diversity is highly
valued at Stanford and contributes significantly toward
the social, cultural, and intellectual life of students.
Conduct in violation of the rights of others is not tolerated
and is grounds for the immediate termination of your occupancy
in University housing and/or the withdrawal of future University
housing privileges. In addition, such conduct may result
in University disciplinary action under Stanford's Fundamental
Standard of student conduct.
Fundamental Standard. The
Fundamental Standard states, "Students are expected to show
both within and without the University such respect for
order, morality, personal honor, and the rights of others
as is demanded of good citizens. Failure to do this will
be sufficient cause for removal from the University."
Noise Policy. Disturbing noise
in or around a residence which infringes on the rights of
other residents or members of the University community is
a violation of the Residence Agreement. Although that general
rule always applies, students are specifically reminded
to curtail noisy activity by 11:00 p.m. on weeknights (Sunday
through Thursday) and 1:00 a.m. on weekends (Friday and Saturday).
Privacy of Housing Information.
All residence assignments and room/apartment numbers are
public unless you indicate otherwise in Axess. Students
will need to use Axess to indicate what information they
would like kept private.
