Current, off-campus residents who have a contract for the full 2006-07 academic year and who
are planning to leave during the summer may sublet their
apartments to direct, non-undergrad Stanford students
under the following conditions:
| 1. |
Subletting is permitted
by the apartment complex management. |
| 2. |
Subletting is only permitted during the summer.
|
| 3. |
The resident cannot charge
a higher rent to the sublessee than he or she is paying
to the University for the space. Violations of this
policy may be referred to the Judicial Affairs Office. |
| 4. |
Residents interested in
subleasing their spaces during the summer are solely
responsible for locating eligible sublessees. Available
sublets will be listed through the Community Housing
database of available rentals. In addition,
Community Housing will maintain lists of available
sublets and lists of people wishing to sublet. These
will be available in person at the Community Housing
office, by e-mail, or by fax. |
| 5. |
All sublessees must be matriculated or non-matriculated graduate
students, visiting scholars, visiting students
or students on medical rotation. The sublessess must be the same gender of the resident if subletting in a shared 2/3br unit. Undergraduates
and graduating students are not eligible to sublet these
spaces. If a space is sublet to a person who is not
formally affiliated with Stanford, the resident is in
violation of the housing policy, and the resident's
apartment contract can be terminated by the University
without notice. |
| 6. |
An apartment or space may
not be sublet without permission of Community Housing, and without completing and submitting all
necessary forms. Once a sublessee is located, the resident
must have him/her/them complete a Sublessee Information
Sheet, and must also complete (with the sublessee) a
University-Assigned Off-Campus Apartment Sublease Agreement
Form. Before signing the Sublease Agreement Form, the
sublessee must read all of the complex's rules and regulations.
Resident may pick up a copy of the complex's packet
from Community Housing. The resident is responsible
for giving it to the sublessee and ensuring that he/she/they
read it. If the space is in a single student apartment,
the resident may also have his or her housemate(s) submit
a Roommate Property Use Restriction Form to be signed
by the sublessee. |
| 7. |
The resident subletting
his or her space continues to be responsible for paying
the rent through his or her University Bill, and the
contract will remain in the resident's name. The resident
and the sublessee are responsible for arranging payment
of the rent from the sublessee to the resident, and
the University is not responsible for any nonpayment
or shortfall. |
| 8. |
Besides the rent, the resident
subletting his or her space is responsible for the condition
of the apartment, and for seeing that the sublessee
adheres to the rules and regulations of the apartment
complex. Community Housing can provide a copy
of the apartment complex rules and regulations. |
| 9. |
It is the resident's responsibility
to see that the apartment/room is clean and in good
order before the sublessee takes possession. A resident
may also wish to ask for a security deposit from the
sublessee to cover any damage or charges that might
be incurred by the sublessee. |
| 10. |
It is also the resident's
responsibility to make arrangements regarding keys for
his or her apartment with the sublessee. No additional
keys will be issued. |
| 11. |
The University will not
be responsible for any conflicts that arise from these
arrangements. |
