Several types of temporary accommodations are available
to Stanford students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars
and researchers while they search for community housing.
Community Housing Services operates a program for
off-campus
subsidized housing. Stanford has leased apartments at
33 complexes in the Stanford area- in Redwood City, Menlo
Park, Palo Alto, and Mountain View. The program is primarily
for continuing graduate students. However, when there are
vacancies, these apartments can be rented on a short-term
basis by Stanford affiliates. The apartments are unfurnished
and utilities are not included. A list of available
apartments/spaces is available on the web. For information
about the program, please call 650-723-1672.
Conference
Services. From late August until mid-September,
Conference Services provides temporary accommodations (primarily
shared occupancy) in a student dormitory for a moderate
fee for Stanford affiliates searching for community housing
for autumn term. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Persons without reservations will be accommodated on a space
available basis. A $70 refundable key deposit is required.
Payment may be made by cash, check (written in U.S. dollars
and payable through a U.S. bank), traveller's check, or
credit card (Visa/Mastercard). Linens are not provided;
guests are responsible for their own housekeeping during
their stays. Bathrooms are shared. For more information,
see one of the two following web pages, depending on your
situation: Short-Term,
Pre-Autumn Housing for Stanford Students or Short
Term Housing for Visiting Scholars and Researchers who
need housing while they are doing research at Stanford during
the summer.
Guest Rooms. No guest rooms
are available during the 2002-03 University calendar year.
Local Hotels
and Motels. Many hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast
inns are located near Stanford. Reservations are strongly
recommended. Some establishments offer reduced rates to
Stanford affiliates; ask when you contact them.
