Clinician Educator Housing
Purchase Programs

There are staff benefits available to certain Clinician Educators (CE's) at Stanford for first time homebuyers. There are two categories of Clinician Educators and two different programs for Clinician Educators that depend on the Clinician Educator's primary job location.

The purchase programs available for Clinician Educators who purchase within the Qualifying Area are:

  • Clinician Educator Purchase Program Summary

  • The Clinician Educator Deferred Interest Program (CE-DIP) is a non-amortizing zero current interest mortgage loan with a deferred interest feature. A CE-DIP loan is for the purchase of a qualifying residence located within the Qualifying Area. This program is administered by Stanford University Faculty Staff Housing (FSH).

  • The Clinician Educator Reduced Interest Program (CE-RIP) is an interest only loan with a low or zero interest rate. There are low or no interest payments and no principal payments until the loan is due. CE-RIP has a 30-year loan term. This program can only be used in combination with the maximum amount of a Clinician Educator Deferred Interest Program (CE-DIP) loan to purchase a qualifying residence located within the Qualifying Area. This program is administered by Stanford University Faculty Staff Housing (FSH).

  • The Clinician Educator Zero Interest Program (CE-ZIP) is a non-amortizing mortgage loan with no payments until the principal is due. The CE-ZIP loan may have a forgivable feature. This program can only be used in combination with the maximum amount of a Clinician Educator Deferred Interest Program (CE-DIP) loan and the maximum amount of a Clinician Educator Reduced Interest Program (CE-RIP) loan to purchase a qualifying residence located within the Qualifying Area. This program is administered by Stanford University Faculty Staff Housing (FSH).

  • The Clinician Educator Housing Allowance Supplement (CE-HAS) is a taxable fringe benefit that provides additional compensation for homebuyers within the Qualifying Area. To apply for CE-HAS, complete the CE-HAS application form. Return both the signed original application form and the initialed exhibit to FSH. This program is administered by Stanford University Faculty Staff Housing (FSH).

Eligibility for Clinician Educators within the Qualifying Area
All of the following criteria must be met:

  1. Stanford University employees who are Clinician Educators appointed as: A Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor; and
  2. Are appointed for a term of three years or more with the possibility of reappointment; and
  3. Are buyers of a Qualifying Residence located within the Qualifying Area, as defined by the University; and
  4. Are buyers whose initial appointment as a Clinician Educator or whose promotion within the Clinician Educator line began on or after July 1, 2004; and
  5. Are buyers who are employed at seventy-five percent (75%) time or greater; and
  6. Are considered benefits eligible Stanford University employees.
  7. Note: Clinical Instructors, Affiliated Clinician Educators, Adjunct Clinician Educators, Clinician Educators who have courtesy appointments, and Clinician Educators who have temporary appointments while awaiting an appointment as a professor in the MCL line are not eligible for this program.

    The eligibility period begins with the approval and acceptance of the appointment or the start of employment in the Clinician Educator eligible position, whichever is later.

The purchase programs available for Clinician Educators who purchase within the Greater Bay Area are:

Eligibility for Clinician Educators within the Greater Bay Area
All of the following criteria must be met:

  1. Stanford University employees who are Clinician Educators appointed as: A Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor; and
  2. Are appointed for a term of three years or more with the possibility of reappointment; and
  3. Are buyers of a Qualifying Residence located within the Greater Bay Area Counties outside of the Qualifying Area (the "Greater Bay Area"); and
  4. Are buyers who are employed at seventy-five percent (75%) time or greater; and
  5. Are considered benefits eligible Stanford University employees; and
  6. Are appointed to a primary job assignment location at a Stanford Medicine location outside of the Qualifying Area; and
  7. Are buyers who purchase a home in the same County as the primary job assignment location or within thirty five (35) miles of the primary job assignment location.

    The eligibility period begins with the approval and acceptance of the appointment or the start of employment in the Clinician Educator eligible position, whichever is later.
