A conversation with Dick Gould about the game of Tennis
Dick Gould is currently the John L. Hinds Director of Tennis at Stanford University. From 1966 until his retirement in 2004, he coached the Stanford men's tennis team, during which time he led his teams to 17 NCAA Team Championships (10 NCAA singles champions, 7 NCAA doubles championship teams), and coached 50 All American champions. He mentored and coached tennis greats such as John McEnroe, Roscoe Tanner, Sandy Mayer, the Bryan twins, and many others. He was director of the Nike “Stanford Tennis School” at Stanford University. In 2008, he was inducted into the San Jose Sports Authority Hall of Fame. He has conducted tennis clinics in Europe, Mexico, China, Japan, Central America and the Caribbean, and has led significant fund-raising efforts for Stanford tennis, including the $18 million dollar facility renovation of the Taube Family Tennis Center.
