Students in the School of Education's STEP may apply for loans bridging the two academic years: summer quarter which is part of the 2008-2009 academic year, and autumn/winter/spring quarters 2009-2010. Applicants will be considered for federal and/or private loans through the University’s Financial Aid Office (FAO).
STEP students seeking financial aid for Summer 2009 through Spring 2010 should file the following three documents.
You should supply data from the 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to the FAO using the Title IV code, 001305. Make this change to your Student Aid Report (SAR) or file an initial FAFSA. Processing of the 2008-2009 FAFSA, which establishes eligibility for summer quarter loans only, ends June 30, 2009.
You should file the 2009-2010 FAFSA for Stanford. Review the resulting Student Aid Report (SAR) carefully to insure accuracy and follow the directions for reporting corrections.
The STEP Student Loan Application is required to be submitted via the on-line application process. Please keep a copy for your files.
For the most advantageous funds through the FAO you should submit the three documents by June 1, 2009.
The FAO will send email notification of awards available through the University’s data system, AXESS. Federal loans are available for all quarters. Quarterly disbursement amounts may be uneven to compensate for differing tuition costs. Your loan funds are disbursed to the University bill at the beginning of each quarter. You will be able to monitor loan disbursements via the AXESS web site.
Students who have had a Cal Grant in prior years of their undergraduate education may be eligible to receive a fifth year of funding for California teacher certification. Download the form Request for Cal Grant Teaching Credential Program Benefits (PDF) and contact the California Student Aid Commission for details and procedures for securing the grant.
SUSE fellowship funds are administered by the School of Education and are coordinated with loan eligibility. A combination of all resources cannot exceed the cost of attendance within each academic year.
STEP students may choose to accept TEACH Grants. Since these funds may become loans if all conditions are not met, we recommend each student determine individually if they would like this grant to be included in their package.
