Stanford Drama and Blackstage Theatre Co. are pleased to announce that it will present Tony Award-winning The Color Purple, The Musical in the Spring of 2012. PERFORMER auditions will be held the evenings of Monday, January 23th and Tuesday, January 24th from 7-10:30pm in Roble Gym, Studio 33. AUDITION DETAILS
Auditions are open to all Stanford University students, staff, faculty, and affiliates. Those auditioning will be scheduled into a single 5-minute time-slot on either the 23th or 24th. Send your availability for both Monday and Tuesday nights between 7:00 and 10:30 p.m. to stanford.colorpurple@gmail.com with a preferred window of time. (Example: "I am available between 7 and 8:30pm on Tuesday, the 24th.") You will hear back from a scheduler as soon as possible.
Please prepare 16-32 bars (1-2min) of music of your choice, preferably in the soul, blues, gospel, or musical theater genre. Please bring sheet music for piano accompaniment. No monologue preparation is necessary.
If called back, performers may be asked to read from selected sides found below. Callbacks (including group dance) will take place on Wednesday 1/25, with further callbacks on Thursday 1/26 (if needed). Please wear clothes you can move in on Wednesday night.

OTHER LOGISTICS
Once finalized, the cast will meet occasionally throughout Winter Quarter (1-2 times a week). Full rehearsals will start at the beginning of Spring Quarter. Each cast member is eligible to receive academic credit for both Winter and Spring quarters. The Color Purple runs May 17-19, 24-26, 2012 in Pigott Theater.

MISTER:
Male, real name is Albert, an outwardly attractive, dominant male presence, disrespectful, demanding and abusive of people in his life, marries Celie, out of necessity and mistreats her, true feelings are for Shug, realizes his errors and tries to make amends, strong vocalist with power. OL' MISTER:

SHUG:

SOFIA:
Female, powerful, humorous, independent warrior woman, physically larger with a presence to match, comfortable and confident in her own skin, uses her sexuality, married to Harpo, will not accept mistreatment. Call-back sides: Harpo_Sofia
HARPO:

NETTIE:
