Duets Project
Diane Frank and student dancers
June 2 at 4:15pm; reception to follow
Roble Dance Studio
Students and faculty are warmly invited to attend the final informal showing of The Duets Project.
Dancers will perform selected repertory excerpts from the the work of five choreographers. The duets were selected specifically for their differing approaches to partnering, a crucial aspect of dance performance which is rarely addressed in technique classes and yet is so important in creating and performing with others.
Each dance requires a different set of rehearsal skills. Practicing the dance sharpens the skills; mastering the skills makes it possible to perform the dance. Initially working within the duet form, the dancers have taken some of the works to another level, developing the duets into several ensemble versions. Their rehearsal processes parallel the rehearsal investigations of the choreographers.
The works feature the following artists:
Excerpt from "Other Suns" by Margaret Jenkins; "Politics of Intimacy" by Holly Johnston; "Precision Ball Passing by Charles Moulton; "Alone Some and Two-some," an airmail dance by Remy Charlip; and an excerpt from "Overlap" by Diane Frank.
Reception to follow, immediately after the showing.
This project made possible through the generous support of the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts.
