Now is an exciting time to be a Classical linguist. The rapid progress of theoretical linguistics over the past two decades, and the increasingly powerful and sophisticated analytical tools it has developed, have finally made it possible for Classical linguists to confront and begin to resolve major problems that have remained intractable for centuries.
