Ulrike received her BA from Mount Holyoke College in Art History in 1997. She later obtained her MA at the University of Heidelberg in Classical Archaeology in 2001. Her master's thesis was titled, "Mycenaean Contacts in the East and West: A Comparison of Selected Sites." Ulrike's academic interests include trade and culture contact in the Mediterranean from the Bronze Age to the Classical period, economic history, Colonization studies, urbanization, and shipwreck archaeology. The working title of her dissertation is Scale, Structure and Organization of Archaic Maritime Trade in the Western Mediterranean : The "Pointe Lequin 1A". She has completed fieldwork in Isthmia, Greece; Miletus, Turkey; Phlius Valley, Greece; Catalhoyuk, Turkey; and Lattes, France. In her nonacademic life, she enjoys running marathons.
