Gary is currently a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford in the IHUM program. He is an archaeologist and Classicist specializing in Greek and Roman material culture and social history. Along with Steven J R Ellis of the University of Cincinnati, Gary directs the Pompeii Archaeological Fieldwork Project: Porta Stabia which is carrying out excavations within an entire neighborhood of the ancient city (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pompeii/).
