Biography:

Jacqueline Feke comes to Stanford from the University of Toronto, where she received her Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology.  Her research analyzes the philosophical systems of ancient Greek mathematicians and natural philosophers.  In her dissertation, Jackie examined the relationships between physics, mathematics, and theology in the texts of Claudius Ptolemy, the second-century mathematician, and she situated his philosophy within the Middle Platonic and Aristotelian commentary traditions.  Jackie has a chapter on Ptolemy in the forthcoming Cambridge History of Philosophy in Late Antiquity, and she is currently researching Ptolemy’s ethics.  Having received her B.A. in religious studies from Brown University, she is also interested in the relationships between religious and scientific ideas, especially in antiquity.  At the University of Toronto, Jackie taught courses in the Department of Classics, and at Stanford she teaches seminars in philosophy.
