Mark Pyzyk is a Ph.D. student on the Ancient History track. He received his BA and MA in Classics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2006 and 2008, respectively, and in 2008, completed a Master's thesis entitled "Burial, Landscape and Hero Cult in the Polis”. He is currently working on a thesis on the relationship between 5th and 4th cen. BCE expertise literature (in both its technical and philosophical instantiations) and expert practice in the Greek world. Specifically, he is investigating the ways that codifying expert knowledge assisted in its transfer to and replication in social and political environments outside the polis (for example, the kingdom of Philip of Macedon).
