Alan is a 4th year student on the Classical Literature PhD track at Stanford. He received a BA in 2008 from the University of Durham in the UK as well as an MA from Durham in 2009, writing a dissertation entitled 'Propaganda and the Persians: Public Epigram’s Depiction of the Persian Wars.' His primary area of study is Greek literature and he is particularly interested in epigram's development as a genre in Classical Greece and the methods by which it was read and transmitted.
His wider research interests include hymns and religious texts, historiography, travel literature and Old Comedy. His interest in the latter has been fired by Stanford Classics in Theater (scit.stanford.edu) with whom he has translated, produced and acted in several ancient comedies as well as serving as financial officer and president.
