Susan E. Alcock is the Director of the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology, and Professor of Classics, Anthropology and History of Art and Architecture at Brown University. Dr. Alcock has done fieldwork in Greece, Armenia and now in Jordan, near the site of Petra as the director of the Brown University Petra Archaeological Project. Dr. Alcock was a 2001 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and was recently elected a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy.
