In this lecture the speaker discusses some of the issues raised by such early Roman historians as Fabius Pictor and attempts to place some of their fragments in a literary and cultural context.
A.J. Woodman has produced twenty-one books, including Rhetoric in Classical Historiography and commentaries on Velleius Paterculus and (co-authored with R.H. Martin) Tacitus, Annals 3 and 4. His most recent book, co-edited with Ian Du Quesnay, is Catullus: Poems, Books, Readers, which appeared last fall; he is currently finishing a commentary on Tacitus' Agricola for the Cambridge 'green and yellow' series.
