Chemistry Seminar Program

Student Hosted Colloquium

Thursday, April 3rd
Professor Reza Ghadiri
"Toward Nanopore-Based Single-Molecule DNA Sequencing and Programmed Enzyme Therapeutics "

Ghadiri
4:15pm - 5:15pm
Braun Auditorium
S.G.Mudd Chemistry Building
Stanford University

This seminar is free and open to the public. All Stanford University Chemistry students are encouraged to attend this special event.

About Ghadiri:
Professor Ghadiri received his B.A. in Chemistry from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1982 and Ph.D. in 1987 in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with Professor B. M. Trost at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Ghadiri joined the faculty of The Scripps Research Institute in 1989 after completing a postdoctoral appointment at the Rockefeller University in the laboratory of Professor E. T. Kaiser.

Ghadiri’s research interests include: De novo design of synthetic peptides and catalysts; intrasterically regulated semi-synthetic enzymes, self-replicating molecular systems and complex networks; biomaterials and antimicrobial agents based on self-assembling peptide nanotubes; single-molecule stochastic sensing; molecular computation; and prebiotic chemistry.

He is recipient of the Searle Scholars Award, Arnold and Mabel Beckman Young Investigator Award, Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, American Chemical Society Award in Pure Chemistry, Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology, Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, and is an Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
