March 1, 2006 Kato received the 2004-05 Newcomb Cleveland Prize YUICHIRO KATO, a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of chemistry Professor Hongjie Dai, received the 2004-05 Newcomb Cleveland Prize from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, publisher of the journal Science. The $25,000 prize is presented annually for the best research paper published in Science that year. Kato and three researchers from the University of California-Santa Barbara shared the award for co-authoring the Nov. 11, 2004, article "Observation of the Spin Hall Effect in Semiconductors," published in Science Express online.
