Advising Resources for Prospective and Current Biology Majors
There are many people at Stanford that can serve as fantastic advising resources for both prospective and current Biology majors, as well as pre-professional students intending to pursue medical, dental, veterinary, or graduate school.
For Prospective Biology Majors
Undergraduate Staff Advisor
The undergraduate advisor, Jennifer Mason, is available to help students with administrative matters including, but not limited to, transferring course work, petitioning major requirements, reviewing course schedules, specific questions related to research, grants, and the departmental honors program, and advising about the general requirements and fields of study available in the degree program. Jennifer is located in Gilbert 108, and has office hours Monday-Thursday 10am-12noon, 1-4:30pm and Friday 1-4:30pm. If you cannot make it during these office hours, Jennifer is generally available on AIM (jmason@stanford.edu) during the day Monday-Friday, and is also available to meet between 8am-10am if needed.
Peer Advisors
BioBridge is the department peer advising program. BioBridge is comprised of junior and senior Biology majors. They are available to offer advice on course loads, choosing advisors, opinions on faculty, providing resources for tutoring, as well as tips on finding a research advisor or sharing personal experience about studying abroad or at Hopkins Marine Station. BioBridge is located in Gilbert 108, and has office hours Monday-Friday 1-4pm during the regular academic year. They can also be reached via email at biobridge@lists.stanford.edu, or you can check out their website.

All declared Biology majors have an academic file in the Student Services Office, and will receive a degree progress update via email 2 times per year. Faculty Advisors
All Biology majors are required to choose a faculty advisor in the department when they declare the major. Faculty advisors are available to discuss your course load, future career and academic interests, and research. Students contact faculty directly via email or by visiting their offices.
For students intending to pursue advanced degrees
Many Biology majors designate themselves as pre-med, pre-vet or pre-dental students. These students should always consult the information and advisors that are available in Undergraduate Advising & Research (UAR). Additionally, there is a Pre-Vet Club led by Professor Donna Bouley that may be of interest to pre-vet students.
