Nurturing Young Children’s Creative Thinking

Course Description

This three-day course will explore the role of creative thinking in early education. We will examine this topic through a framework that combines theory, research and practice. The course is designed to challenge you to consider why creative thinking is important for increasing quality in early childhood education.

Course Content

Together, we will define creative thinking in the growth and development of the young child and investigate the types of conditions that are conducive to a ‘creative thinking culture.’ An action plan that identifies your goals, strategies and resources will integrate the course experience into your current teaching practice and continuing professional development.

Session Dates & Hours:

Session One: July 8-10
Mon. & Tues. 8:30-4:00pm, Wed. 8:30-2:30pm
         or
Session Two: July 24-26
Wed. & Thurs. 8:30-4:00pm, Fri. 8:30-2:30pm

The same program will be offered both sessions.

Fee:

$500
Includes refreshments and lunch.

Refund Policy:
Withdrawal by May 1, 2013: $300 refund
Withdrawal by June 1, 2013: $200 refund

In conjunction with Stanford Continuing Studies Program Special Program (CSP SP), participants can receive an optional 2 units or 20 hours upon course completion. Registration for Stanford Continuing Studies credits will take place during the week of the institute and an additional $75 fee is required.

The Bing Institute is a unique professional development opportunity provided by Bing Nursery School, Stanford University. Participants will gain insights and develop skills for working with young children and/or teacher training. Our carefully designed buildings and spacious grounds, constructed to meet the needs of young children, are the perfect setting for learning, reflection and rejuvenation.

The goal for the Summer Session is to share our experience with other Early Childhood professionals and to consider topics in educating young children. This chance to examine the philosophy, program and practices that shape our educational model will translate into an opportunity for inspiration, an exchange of ideas and a stronger commitment to children and families. The process will include hands-on experiences, observations, presentations, discussions and resources to ensure an engaging learning opportunity for professional development. Participants will be immersed in an intensive onsite experience at the laboratory school housed on the Stanford University campus.

Registration as a Bing Institute, Bing Nursery School participant and attendance at or participation in events on campus or other Bing Institute, Bing Nursery School or Stanford University activities constitutes an agreement by the participant to the University’s use, licensing, and distribution (both now and in the future) of the participant’s image or voice in photographs, videotapes, electronic reproductions, or audiotapes of such events and activities.
