The present building was constructed with funding from the National Science Foundation and a special grant from Mrs. Anna Bing Arnold and her son, Dr. Peter Bing. Under the careful guidance of its founding Director, Dr. Edith Dowley, the environment, both indoors and out, was planned to be a place where young children could have the freedom to make their own choices, thus developing a growing sense of initiative and independence. The spacious nursery school classrooms, each with a one-half acre outdoor play area, beckon children as they enter.
