The Bachelor's of Arts degree is granted in Chinese, Japanese and East Asian Studies. Required courses and pre-requisites must be completed with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better.
The minor in Asian Languages (Chinese, Japanese or East Asian Studies) is also available. These have been designed to give students majoring in other departments an opportunity to gain substantial introduction to Chinese (Mandarin) or Japanese language, as well as an introduction to the culture and civilization of East Asia.
“I graduated from Stanford with a degree in Japanese ... I left to teach high school in Japan for a couple of years. It was a great experience: I solidified my language skills, gained some perspective on employment and life in Japan, and made lifelong friends. The linguistic and cultural understanding I gained at Stanford (and during my time in Japan) continues to enrich my life on a daily basis.”
