Basic Navigation

Before we dive into using the specific functions of Authority Manager, let's look at the basic features of Authority Manager.

Many of the functions within the application are self explanatory, for example find, revoke and end session. Some functions are more complex than would first appear to be, these include clone to, revoke all and the clone checkmark column. For additional explanation click the yellow circle with the number near the function.

basic navigation of authority manager
Window title The window title identifies the view you are currently looking at.
Home link The Home link returns to the Home page of Authority Manager. Some actions can be done only from the Home page - for example, changing your "Acting as..." persona.
Login name

Name of the currently logged-in user shows here. If this is not your name, you must log out and login again as yourself. It is a violation of University policy to login to any secure site with another user's SUNet ID.

Advanced feature
If you are working as an authority-granting proxy, the login name will display like this:
Barry Watson (acting as Brenda Hampton)
Verify that your name is the first one listed; otherwise, you are not logged in correctly.
Help link Click the Help link if you have a question about how to complete a task in Authority Manager. The Help page opens in a new browser window (so you can go back and forth between the Help and the Authority Manager page), and provides detailed task assistance.
End Session
link

The End session link closes your Authority Manager session and logs you out of webauth. It's good security practice to click this link when you're finished using Authority Manager.

Tools & links - Find Person This area displays links to related views (such as the "find" tools to navigate to other person or organization views).
View ID The View ID indicates the subject of the view you're looking at. This could be a person, an organization, or a business function.
Grant If you can grant in the current context, a Grant link will display here. The grant wizard will pre select the person or organization shown in the View ID.
Authority views - Select List The select list represents either a set of current or recently revoked assignment or proxy settings.
Business Function A set of privileges that represent a defined University business activity. Examples: Purchasing; Admissions; Payroll.
Revoke All - button Revoke in mass a set of privileges by authority subsystem. You can only revoke in mass those privileges that you can grant.
Edit options If you are not looking at your own view, and if you have any grantable authority, the Edit options will display. When you click one of these links, the system will determine whether your authority allows you to edit that specific authority assignment. If so, you'll be able to change the Limits or Conditions of the assignment. No other parts of the assignment are editable.
Revoke buttons If you are not looking at your own view, and if you have any grantable authority, the Revoke buttons will display. When you click one of these links, the system will determine whether your authority allows you to revoke that specific authority assignment.
Grantable Column

A checkmark in this column indicates that the person (view ID) you are looking at can grant this privilege.
