About the Web Gallery
While the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery serves as the physical site for displaying the department's art works, this Web Gallery serves as the virtual gallery for displaying works from both students and faculty. Although it might mimic the exhibition currently displayed in the Art Gallery, it is not necessarily its intention. We hope instead that the Web Gallery becomes the extension of works beyond the lifetime of an exhibit. For exhibits have a certain ephemerality that is savored only at the moment of viewing. From there, memory takes over to shape the image's final statement. The image's continuation or iconification into a digital persistence, puts memory in continuous turmoil. (MG)
