Our gallery space has a 18-foot ceiling and is 52-foot length and 24-foot width. If you are proposing a site-specific piece we encourage you to visit the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery. The Gallery is located in the Stanford campus, off Palm Drive at 419 Lasuen Mall.
Parking is free after 4 PM and all day on weekends. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday and Sunday 1-5pm.
Please note: the gallery will be closed May 5-19, 2008.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: EXPANDING
The tradition of sculpture has expanded to encompass every material and context for the expression of ideas in space, from wood and stone to light and sound, from the microscopic to the monumental, private to public, real to virtual. The Department of Art & Art History at Stanford University is pleased to announce artists’ submissions are being accepted for its sculpture exhibition titled Expanding at the Thomas Welton Stanford Art Gallery.
Curators: Terry Berlier, Assistant Professor & Moira Murdock, Gallery & Exhibitions Manager.
Artist Eligibility: Open to students, and all emerging and established artists living/working in the Bay Area.
Selection Criteria: Artists may submit existing work or a proposal for new work (includes: gallery work, outside sculptures, interventions, and temporary public pieces).
Honorarium: Selected artists will each receive an honorarium.
Installation: Artists must be present for the installation of works requiring assembly. Some help and equipment will be provided, but artists will be primarily responsible for their own installations.
Required Submission Materials:
- Brief letter of interest
- Resume or curriculum vitae. Include: name, mailing address, preferred phone number(s), email, and webpage, if applicable.
- Documentation of work (see below).
- Annotated image list. Include: title, date, location (if image is of an installation), media, dimensions HxWxD, weight, brief description and conceptual intent, where applicable.
- Installation plan. Briefly state the installation plan and requirements for all works submitted for consideration. Please include equipment required to move or install, electricity, wall and/or floor space, etc.
Documentation:
Submit no more than 9 images for existing work or for a proposal for new work.
Existing Work: Artists may submit images of a maximum of three individual works for consideration, with three views per piece. Proposed Work: Artists may submit only one proposal using a maximum of three digital images or photos. Proposal must be accompanied by two examples of previous work, using the criteria listed above for ‘existing work’. Digital renderings or photos of drawings/maquettes will be accepted.
Digital Images (preferred): Submit on a CD in JPEG format, no more than 8” x 10” size at 72 dpi. Label CD with artist’s name and each image with the artist’s name and the number that corresponds to the image list.
Example: smith_drew01a.jpg, smith_drew01b.jpg, smith_drew02a.jpg, smith_drew02b.jpg, etc. (multiple views of the same piece can be labeled with ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’).
Slides: Submit in an 8 1/2 x 11 clear plastic sheet labeled with artist’s name. Label each slide with the artist’s name, the number that corresponds to the image list and indicate the top of the image.

Expanding is funded in part by SICA, The Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts, established in 2006, acts as the Stanford Arts initiative’s nerve center, leading the development of new undergraduate arts programs; hosting artists in residence; administering new multidisciplinary graduate degree programs; awarding grants for multidisciplinary arts research and teaching; incubating collaborative performances and exhibitions with campus partners and other institutions; and providing centralized communication for Stanford arts events and programs.
